New films to help children understand funerals

A frequent question that is asked by callers to Child Bereavement UK’s Helpline is ‘How do I explain a burial or a cremation to my child?’. Both the recent death of HM The Queen and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on families have highlighted the need for open and honest conversations with children about death, dying and funerals.

Funerals can be a challenging subject that many people find difficult to talk about, so Child Bereavement UK have created two new animations to help support families by providing clear and honest information in short films they can watch together, one on burials and one on cremations. The films aim to allay any concerns children may have so they will feel better prepared for what will happen on the day.

The launch coincides with Children’s Grief Awareness Week (17 to 23 November) which highlights the needs of bereaved children and young people in the UK.
