Parental Leave Bill becomes Law.
Elliot's Footprint welcomes the news today that the Parental Leave and Pay Bill became law today after Royal Assent (The Queen made it official).
The new law gives all employed parents a day-one right to 2 weeks’ leave if they lose a child under the age of 18, or suffer a stillbirth from 24 weeks of pregnancy. The first law of its kind in the UK will support those affected by the tragedy of childhood mortality and is expected to come into force in 2020.
Elliot's Footprint offered insight and feedback into this Bill and are delighted to see it implemented.
Founder Andrea Kerslake said:
'We are delighted that this Bill has now become Law. Whilst we would of preferred a longer period of leave mandated by the Bill, we are really pleased that, at a minimum, parents will be able to take some time off to grieve without having to worry about work. We are really thankful to Kevin Hollinrake MP to listening to our thoughts and feedback on this bill and are very happy that it has passed.
We hope this is the first of many steps the Government will take to support families through child-loss, especially in terms of long term help
We would also like to recognise the fantastic work that Lucy Herd has done in making this law a reality. Lucy's tireless campaigning is an inspiration to us all.'
